Hot or Cold?
1 Kings 1:1-4
1 Now King David was old, advanced in years; and they put covers on him, but he could not get warm. 2 Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young woman, a virgin, be sought for our lord the king, and let her stand before the king, and let her care for him; and let her lie in your bosom, that our lord the king may be warm.” 3 So they sought for a lovely young woman throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king. 4 The young woman was very lovely; and she cared for the king, and served him; but the king did not know her.
Everybody gets old naturally, that’s part of life. But 70 to 80 years cannot compare to eternity. We can get old spiritually.
Now of course we need to mature, grow up and develop, but we need to stay fresh and nimble. Spiritually hot. So many people look to the pastor to keep them hot, but friend at the end of the day the heat has to be in you to be on you.
Jesus writes this in the book of Revelation to the church in Laodicea: 3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Notice they had left it, walked away from it. Return to where you left it! It’s not lost; you know where it is.
The devil’s time is short. He knows he can affect the Kingdom if he can get the ones on fire for God, the young ones. We’re talking about young at heart, like the wise virgins who kept their lamps burning till the return of Christ. These are the ones that threaten the devil’s kingdom. Let’s keep ourselves young and fresh, for His sake and for the coming Kingdom.
How are you going to stay close to Christ and on fire for God this week?
