WORSHIP SUNDAY
21ST SEPTEMBER 2008
Last Sunday 21st of September City Impact Church Auckland celebrated “Worship Sunday”.
The evening service was transformed into an amazing worship service! The aim was to prepare things in the spirit for our amazing conference, “Global Impact 2008” which is happening next week! With the beginnings of the lighting rig and set starting to shine, the Sanctuary looked amazing!
The music team, which had been rehearsing that afternoon in preparation, lead us through a few of their new songs - excitement and expectation was brewing!
It really kicked things off for the coming weeks – we can not wait to see what God is going to do!

CHILDCARE HITTING HEADLINES
22ND SEPTEMBER 2008
They borrowed trucks, school buses and child labour to transport them, but there was no shortage of takers for 273 brightly coloured fluffy new bean bags donated to Wakatipu schools, preschools and help centres.
Crombie Lockwood Insurance Brokers' 273 conference delegates needed something to sit on during their three-day conference in a huge marquee on the Queenstown Recreation last week.
"We didn't want to have a traditional conference sitting on chairs, so we thought why not buy bean bags and then donate them back to the community," the company's General Manager Partnerships and Development Sue Crawford said.
Schools and preschools seemed like a good idea with the company insuring 56 percent of New Zealand's public schools, so the conference event managers contacted City Impact Church Queenstown early childhood centre head teacher Shaun Vining, an entertainer, to see if there were any takers.
"I thought they meant the little throwing and catching ones and I said, yeah, we'll take them all and distribute them. I was going to collect them in my car, but they said 'you'll need a truck'," Mr Vining said.
With truck soon borrowed from Jenkins Construction, Mr Vining found himself amassed with an enormous pile, $16,380 worth, of bean bags at the conference marquee collection point. Then came the ambush — dozens of excited Queenstown Primary schoolchildren sent to collect their school's share, overseen by an equally delighted principal John Western.
"What a great initiative this organisation has come up with to help the community ... and the best part is there's been a fair distribution to all," Mr Western said.
Bean bags were carted off to Arrowtown School in one of its school buses, to St Joseph's School, Arrowtown Pre-school, Happiness House and Queenstown Lakes Family Centre, and Mr Vining took some back to the eager tots at his centre and church.

GETTING THE PLACE READY FOR GLOBAL
13TH SEPTEMBER 2008
A sunny Saturday September 13th saw many people come out for the Working Bee – to get the place spruced up for our annual Global Impact Conference coming up on the 30th of September.
There were so many things to do from gardening to painting, sorting to cleaning. All hands were “put to the plow” and together we accomplished a lot!
Our Auditorium is now sporting a new look with its freshly painted walls for Global Kids and Global Youth. The Auditorium kitchen was cleared out ready for the new equipment to run the much loved cafes throughout Global week. The Gardens had a face lift and the windows are gleaming! The courtyard outside the Sanctuary Café is looking better than ever with its new polished concrete and the smell of “clean” is everywhere!
A big thank you to all who came out and helped – we are all very excited about the upcoming Global conference. It is not far away now so make sure you and all your friends and family have registered – it is going to be an amazing week which you do not want to miss!

VISION IMPACT - GUEST SPEAKER
2008 15TH SEPTEMBER 2008
Run by Ps Tim Look, Vision Impact occurs once a month on a Friday morning. It is an opportunity for business men and women to come along, pray and converse with other like minded people. They meet at 7am and spend an hour in the Sanctuary for prayer and encouragement, then disperse into the café for coffee, conversation and a cooked breakfast – what a way to start the day!
This Friday, 19th September special guest, Murray Zander is coming in to speak. Murray is a successful businessman and is excited to share his experiences and valuable tips he has learnt along the way.
Meet Murray:
“I am married to Jan with two adult sons, one is married and working in property development and the other is at university. We also have a daughter aged 13. In 1988 my wife and I formed a fertilizer company with several business partners. In the late nineties we saw a change coming in the fertilizer market. As we were a small company we needed to develop technology that would set us apart from the larger companies. We also formed a product development company to develop fertilizer products that could be manufactured by our fertilizer company. We hold patents on these products. Seven years ago I and three other members of our Life Business Team formed a company, initially investing in residential property and in the last two years we have moved into industrial property development.”
Vision Impact is open to all men and women who are involved in business at any level. Keep an eye on your church calendar for any further dates.
Hope to see you there.

HOT WHEELS GALA - A HUGE SUCCESS
7TH SEPTEMBER 2008
The “Hot Wheels Gala” held last Sunday after the Fathers Day service was “a huge success!” says Ps Peter Mortlock.
Never has there been such a diverse display of wheels in our car park before. We had many motorbikes, vintage cars, police cars, go karts, push bikes, scooters, roller blades and even an Army truck and a tractor with a trailer load of hay!
The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves parading around on their decorated bikes, many of them winning much deserved prizes for all their (and their parent’s) efforts. They were also able to have their faces painted, take part in the horizontal bungee, ride on the tractor trailer upon the hay and then every kids dream; play with the sirens in the police cars.
The fathers on their special day had the opportunity to enjoy precious moments not only with their beloved children, but also drool over the many vintage cars and beautiful motorbikes lined up outside the City Impact Diner.
A big thank you to all who worked to organise the day, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all – making it truly a “Happy Fathers Day.”

CITY IMPACT SCHOOL SPEECH COMPETITION
8TH SEPTEMBER 2008
Nerves were running high at City Impact School last week as they held their annual speech competition finals. Three children of each age group were chosen to deliver their speeches in front of the entire school as well as family members who came along to support.
The children were given one month to research and write their own speeches. Many of the small children were excited to share animated stories about their favourite toys, while the older children spoke on values and morals.
Judged by Ruth Murray, Marcus Slagel and Clare Jones the winners were; Jack van de Water (Yr 0), Caleb Gregory (Yr 2), Taylor-Rose Hale (Yr 5) and Jordan Parratt (Yr 7). Ruth Murray commented, “The standard of speeches were excellent and it truly reflects the amazing learning environment the children are educated in every day.”
In fact the standard was so excellent that all three Yr 7 finalists were given the opportunity to deliver their speeches last Sunday morning to the entire congregation at the Fathers Day Service.
Big congratulations to all the finalists – we are so proud of you!

UNDER 30'S TRIUMPH IN NETBALL AND LEAGUE
31ST AUGUST 2008
Beauty triumphed over wisdom last Sunday afternoon as both the Under 30s Netball and League teams took the titles for 2008.
Coached by Vicki Davis (Under 30s Netball), Vanessa Littlejohn (Over 30s Netball), Brad Niblet (Under 30s league) and Phil Littlejohn (Over 30s League) there were around 80 players who took part in three games.
The games started at Rangitoto College with B grade Netball at 1pm followed by the A grade and then the League at 2:30pm. With Ps Peter Mortlock and Ps Tim Look as commentators there was never a dull moment! Screaming, yelling, cheering and laughter from the many spectators continued throughout the afternoon until a missed conversion sealed the Under 30s League victory at 4:30pm.
Many walked away with aching limbs and bruises; however it will only be “one thumb up” for Ps Greg Crawford, the Youth Ministry Leader for a while as his other broken thumb is supported by a brand new cast.
The whole afternoon was highly enjoyed by all who attended. Better luck next year for the Over 30s teams - we can’t wait to see what or “who” you come up with!

HOT AUGUST NIGHT
29TH AUGUST 2008
Last Friday night City Impact Church Auckland held the annual “Hot August Night” prayer meeting, running from 8pm until midnight. It was a memorable and powerful night.
Many young people and families came out to pray. With their parents in the Sanctuary the children snuggled up with sleeping bags and a movie in the Auditorium next door until they all fell asleep. It was such an anointed night of powerful prayer and worship, covering not only our congregation but also our nation.
During the night we had the awesome opportunity to pray over some new Billboards which Transit New Zealand are about to erect throughout Dome Valley. Each one of them feature a white angel up in the top left corner, representing the work God has done in this dangerous stretch of road since March 2007, when our church began praying continuously over the crash and fatality rate.
If you missed out being at the Hot August Night, make sure you are at the Worship Service - Wednesday nights at 6.30pm.

RODNEY COUNCIL ASKS “KEEP UP THE PRAYER PLEASE”
28TH AUGUST 2008
Since9th May 2007 City Impact Church Auckland has been praying for the high crash zone in Dome Valley, Rodney District. Since that date local residents and transport authorities have seen a dramatic decrease in the crash and fatality rate. On 7th August 2008 the Rodney Times stated, “The road crash death rate in Rodney has reached its lowest in 28 years”
Yesterday Community Impact Leader Mary-Kath Laita spoke with Jackie Dawson, the Road Safety Co-ordinator for Rodney Council. Jackie said she is having a meeting tomorrow in regards to another very bad stretch of road called Schedeways Hill, just past Puhoi and will keep us informed as she would love us to pray for that area as well.
Her words were, “Wow, there has been no fatal crashes - it’s amazing... keep up the prayers please!”
Well done City Impact Church - keep up the good work.
